WILLIAM HUBERT ARMENTROUT, SR.
  
William Hubert Armentrout, Sr. passed away at the age of 97 in Fredericksburg, Texas. 

Bill was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico Territory, Dec. 24, 1911, the son of Fred and Elsie Armentrout. The family 
moved to Atascosa County in Texas in 1914. He attended school in Christene, Texas where he met and later married 
Nell Karcher. The couple continued to make their home in Atascosa County and were engaged in farming and 
ranching until 1936 when they moved to Karnes County. They farmed until 1940 and then moved to Nixon, Texas 
where Bill began his career with Farmall Tractors & Equipment and International Trucks. He voluntarily entered the 
Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific campaign until war’s end in 1945. He was in the amphibious forces serving 
on a L.C.T. through the landing and securing the island of Okinawa. After Okinawa, his ship was sent to the sea of 
Japan just before the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshimo.

After his discharge, he returned to Nixon and continued his career with International Trucks and Tractors. In addition 
to raising his family, Bill was active in community affairs serving as Chief of the Volunteer Fire Dept., President of the 
School Board, member of the Masonic lodge and Baptist Church.

In 1954, Bill and Nell moved to Austin where he began a job as service manager for A.J. Maloney Company, International 
Dealer. In 1957, the International Harvester Co. bought the dealership and it became a company branch, Longhorn 
Equipment. He continued as branch service manager until 1970 when he was promoted to regional service manager. 
He retired in 1973.

Throughout their marriage Nell & Bill were avid travelers, primarily in their R.V. They visited all 50 states, most of Canada 
and throughout Mexico. They were very active in the Good Sam Travel Club and enjoyed making new friends. After 
Nell’s death, Bill continued his membership in the Good Sam Club serving as president of his local chapter, Cen-Tex 
Sams at the age of 95. After a severe fall in the summer of 2007, he reluctantly gave up driving, but continued to attend 
Good Sam rallies with one of his sons pulling his R.V. to the events.

Bill is survived by daughter, Jane Fischer, and sons, Bill, Jr. & wife, Ann, and Pat & wife, Dianna. Grandchildren include 
Jon and Laura Fischer, Jerry and Cindy Fischer, Bobby and Jena Fischer Lucroy, Bob and Janine Armentrout, Jim and 
Theresa Armentrout and Pam Armentrout. Great grandchildren include Bobby & Bonnie Armentrout, Billy Armentrout 
& Kayla, Patrick Armentrout, David Armentrout, Lauron Fischer, Jake Lucroy, and Amy Lucroy. One great, great grandchild, 
Arianna Hope Armentrout.

Bill was preceded in death by wife, Nell, in 2003, and son-in-law, Braxton Fischer in 2007.

Funeral services will be held on Monday July 20th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home of 
Fredericksburg with Jon Fischer officiating.

Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday July 19 from 5 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home of Fredericksburg

He will be missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Texas Children’s home, 
Zion Lutheran Church of Fredericksburg or the charity of your choice.
