CLARK, Henry, Beeville Bee, 20 Jan 1899: Henry Clark, an old and respected citizen of southwest Texas, died at the home of his niece, Mrs. W. Carroll in Victoria at 7:40 o’clock on Monday morning. The deceased was born in Montgomery county, New York, June 21, 1818 and had lived in Texas since 1837, arriving here shortly after Major John H. Wood, who married his sister and who came to join the Texas revolutionists. Mr. Clark had made his home with Major Wood until a few years ago and associated with him in several business ventures from which he realized quite a competence in his old age. For the past few years he has spent his time with his nieces and nephews, children of Maj. Wood, Mesdames A. G. Kenedy, W. H. George, and Mrs. W. C. Carroll, and Messrs. T. D. and W. A. Wood of Victoria. Mr. Clark’s death was preceded by that of his brother William, also a bachelor, by about a year. They were well known throughout this section as men of sterling integrity and were among the few survivors of a period when it required men of firmness and character to make property rights respected.
