CRUMP, Col. John S., Beeville Bee, 26 May 1899:

Col. John S. Crump, the noted pioneer and hunter who has lived in Live Oak 
County since the early 1840’s, died in this city Tuesday after an illness of over 
a month.  

The deceased was nearly eighty years of age and had never married, living 
the life of a hunter.  

He was a native of Alabama and spent some years of his life in California in the 
palmer days of gold digging.  He came to Beeville about a month ago for the 
medical treatment.  

His funeral took place Tuesday evening, the body being interred in the 
Beeville Cemetery.
