JOHNSON, Augustus, Beeville Bee or Picayune, Thursday, 23 May 1918: Lapara Citizen Dead Augustus Johnson, well known citizen of Lapara, died Saturday, May 18th at his home and the remains were laid to rest in Lebanon Cemetery the following day at 12 o'clock. Mr. Johnson was born at Columbus, Georgia in 1826 and was 92 years of age. He was married to Miss Caroline Butts of Atlanta, Georgia in the year 1854 and to this union eight children were born, as follows; Mrs. J. C. Lombettson, Fordtran, Texas, Mrs. E. J. Owens, Greenville, Tex., J. M. Johnson, Cadiz, E. A. Johnson, Beeville, DeWitt Johnson, Alaska, W. R. Johnson, Lapara; two daughters and his good wife preceded him in death. Mr. Johnson served throughout the civil war under Generals Albert Sidney Johnson and Robert E. Lee. He came to Texas in 1872, residing at San Saba until 1891 at which time he came to Live Oak County where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr. Johnson united with the Methodist Church in childhood and was a devout Christian throughout his life.
