JOHNSON, Mrs. Jennie, Beeville Bee, 5 Oct 1900: Mrs. Johnson, nee Miss Jennie Williams, wife of August T. Johnson, a well-known citizen of this city, died last Friday evening after a short illness. Her funeral took place from the Catholic Church on Saturday afternoon, the remains being followed to the grave by a large concourse of friends of the bereaved husband and little ones who have sustained the greater loss fate can bestow. Mrs. Johnson was a native of Washington, Arkansas, a daughter of Capt. Matt Moss, one of the pioneers of that section. She first came to Beeville in 1888 as teacher of music in the high school and here met and won by the man who has made her a devoted husband, and whose life she enabled by her true womanly and Christian character. Five children have blessed this union, the eldest 11 years of age, and the youngest a week or more old at its Mother’s death. Truly it can be said that a death is not sadder, nor bereavement more deplorable than the loss of a mother’s care to this little family.
