BARCLAY, Mrs. E. J., Beeville Bee, Friday, 13 May 1904: Mrs. E. J. BARCLAY, one of the oldest residents of Beeville, died last Sunday night at her home in this city, after an illness of several weeks. The deceased lacked twenty-five days of the scriptural three score and ten, and has been a resident since 1873. Born in Missouri in 1834, she came to Texas in 1848, her father first settling in Cherokee county where he resided until 1853, when he moved to what is now known as Wilson county. In 1856 she was united in marriage to C. M. BARCLAY who, after locating in Beeville with his family, built the hotel now known as the Nations and who died here in 1883. Of the issue of their marriage there are two survivors, J. W. and Miss Bobbett Barclay, of this city. A brother, H. B. EDMISTON, a well-known ranchman residing near Stockdale and a sister, Mrs. Mattie CROSSLEY, resides in Gillespie County. The funeral of Mrs. Barclay occurred on Monday afternoon, religious services being conducted by Rev. J. T. H. Miller of the Methodist church.
