Clare, Mrs. Angelina, Beeville Bee, Friday, 14 Aug 1891: One of the saddest deaths which it has been the duty of the writer to chronicle was that of Mrs. Angelina Clare, wife of John I. Clare, last Sunday morning at 1 o’clock. Here where she was reared from a child to womanhood, her death is deeply deplored by her numerous friends who knew her for her many admirable qualities and amiable disposition. To her husband and children, the Bee tenders the deepest sympathy and condolence more than the words convey. Mrs. Clare was a daughter of James Ryan, an early immigrant to Texas, who settled in what is not Lavaca Co. in 1853 and who was a participant in the battle of San Jacinto. He moved to Himes Bay in 1854 and from there to Bee County in 1859. Mrs. Clare’s death was not unexpected. She had been seriously ill for several weeks and the best of medical attention seemed to be of no avail. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her surviving sisters, Mrs. Pat Burke, Mrs. Thos. Welder, and Mrs. W. A. Clare of Beeville, Mrs. May and Mrs. Banderhider of Lavaca Co. She leaves a family of 6 children, 4 boys and 2 girls to mourn the loss of a mother’s tender care. The funeral took place Monday morning from the Catholic Church, the burial ceremony being conducted by Rev. Father Flynn. Mrs. Clare’s remains were interred in the cemetery at the little Catholic Church on the Aransas.
