DOLAN, Michael Jr., Beeville Bee, Friday, 15 Feb 1907: News was received Wednesday from Lapara by telephone of the death of Michael DOLAN, Jr., the well-known ranchman of that vicinity, who met with a serious accident on January 6th, and since has been paralyzed. While riding in his pasture, Mr. Dolan's horse became unmanageable and threw him against a tree, the impact of the fall being sustained on his head and fracturing the fifth vertebra of his spine. The best of medical attention has been given since, Dr. Thurston of this place making almost daily visits. At first it was hoped that the paralysis was due to a hemorrhage that would in time be absorbed and the fact that the patient recovered consciousness and the partial use of one of his hands gave hope. The fatal ending of the injury however indicates that the spine was fractured and that from the first there was no chance for recovery. The deceased was a native of this section, the third son of Michael Dolan, a pioneer, and was a young man of energy and integrity.
