GILCREASE, W. A., Beeville Bee, Friday, 6 Mar 1903:

W. A. GILCREASE, an aged and well known Confederate Veteran and a resident of 
Beeville for many years, died on the 2nd inst. at Rockport where he had been for 
several months. 

The deceased was in his 60th year and in his youth had been a valiant soldier. 

His declining days were clouded by adversity and the misfortune of blindness. His 
old comrades cannot refrain from uttering a requiem to his memory and cherish the 
hope that his death was but the passing from the darkness that has clouded the 
closing years of his life into the light of an eternal day.
