JOHNSON, August T., Beeville Bee, Friday, 13 Jul 1903: The community was greatly shocked on awakening last Saturday morning to learn the sudden death during the night of Mr. August T. JOHNSON, a well known resident here. Only a few of his friends knew he had been sick. He was living in the Nations Hotel where he died of neuralgia of the heart. The deceased had been a resident of this area for twenty years or more. He was a native of Texas, having been born in 1864 in the coastal town of Lamar, where his father Capt. Theodore Johnson, a well-known sailing master survives him. When a youth he came to Beeville and entered into employment of Capt. A. C. Jones in the latter's mercantile stablishment. He was connected with various business enterprises and served several years as County Treasurer. At the time of his death and for several years past he had charge of the books of the Law Lumber Company and in the absence of the manager had the local supervision of this firm's interest. Mr. Johnson leaves five children, his wife having preceded him several years ago. The funeral took place from the Catholic Church on Saturday evening.
