JONES, Mrs. Mary A., Beeville Bee, Wednesday, 11 Feb 1891: Oakville, Texas. Mrs. Mary A. Jones passed away on Thursday morning, the 6th inst. After a lingering illness. Her sister, Miss. Doughty of Kerrville, and her niece, Mrs. Cy Ussery of Goliad were in attendance at her bedside during her last hour. The spirit of Mrs. Mary A. Jones passed from this life away at her home in Oakville on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 5, 1891. She was born in the state of Mississippi on the 26th day of May 1839 and was therefore approaching her 52nd year of life. In early life she removed with her family to Texas and located on Turkey Creek in Goliad County, where she met and became the wife of Mr. G W. Jones, who was for many years County Judge of Live Oak County, and for 20 years one of its leading characters. In her thirtieth year, Mrs. Jones professed religion and became a member of the Christian Church, but her predilections for Baptist doctrines ran stronger and she became a member of the Baptist Church. The death of Mr. Jones in Dec. of 1888, was a heavy blow and left her a widow with an only child, Leslie, a brilliant and promising youth, but it seems indeed that she was one whom disaster followed with the coming of Spring and bore away her son. T almost her last breath murmured the name of her beloved husband and son.
