Malone. She was 93 years old at that time. Lacking but one year, three months and 42 days of having lived 100 years, Mrs. Abigail Malone, widow of the late Col. F. J. Malone, died Friday evening at 7:25 o'clock at the home of Dr. and Mrs. G. M. Stephens, where she had made her home for 31 years. Death was attributed to senility. Mrs. Malone had been ill for three weeks. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Stephens home, Revs. W. C. Binford, H. N. Cunningham and S. B. Beall taking part in the services. Mrs. Malone had long been a member of the Baptist church. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery beside her husband who passed to his reward on December 5, 1891. Mrs. Malone, whose maiden name was Abigail Humphries, was a daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Jones) Humphries. She was born at Tuscaloosa, Alabama, May 11, 1833. The family moved to Mississippi when she was a child and there she attended the public schools, among the students being F. J. Malone, to whom she was married on September 11, 1851. The ceremony took place at Liberty Hill, LaFayette county. They left the same year for Texas, coming overland and located near what is now Martindale, on the San Marcos river. Twenty five years (continued on page five) Mrs. Malone (continued from page one) later, after her husband had served through the Civil war and had attained the rank of Colonel, the family moved to Bee county. locating on the 0lmos creek, west of Skidmore. Mrs. Malone came to Beeville to live when her husband died in 1891 and had resided here continuously since. She had the misfortune to fall and break her hip 31 years ago and since that time had been a cripple. Mrs. Malone was the mother of ten children, six of whom survive. They are Mesdames M. G. Irwin and G. M. Stephens and County Clerk Fred J. Malone of Beeville; Thomas J. and John C. Malone., Skidmore. and Wm. B. Malone of Henderson. Texas. The deceased children are Mrs. Dan Troy, Mrs Frank Howard, Ira S. and Donna Malone. Mrs. Malone was perhaps Bee county's oldest citizen. Her eyesight and hearing had failed her to an extent in recent years, but her mind remained clear to the last. She revealed an active interest in current events and after she could no longer read, due to failing eyesight, Dr. and Mrs. Stephens would read to her. All surviving members of the family were present for the funeral except W. B. and John C. Malone, neither of whom could be reached in time. In addition, a large number of other descendants and relatives were here for the services, five grandsons and one great grandson serving as pall bearers. They were Sid B. Malone, Beeville; Lawrence B. Howard, Austin; Ira S. Malone, San Antonio; W. B. Malone, Corpus Christi; Dan C. Malone, Skidmore, grandsons; and Robert Taylor, Beeville, great-grandson. Mrs. Malone had been a resident of Bee county for 56 years and had seen her children and their children assume places of trust and importance in the official life of the county and district. Two sons-in-law and one son have served in succession as county and district clerk; one grandson served as county attorney, county judge and district attorney; another grandson served as district attorney; a grandson by marriage has also served as head of the Beeville city schools for 34 years. Mrs. Malone is survived by 39 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren. and one great-great-grandchild. Relatives from out of the city attending the funeral were. Emory Johnson and family, I. S. Malone, Mrs. Lula Adams, all of San Antonio; Lawrence B. Howard, Austin; Henry Daily and daughter of Kenedy: W. B. Malone and wife, Corpus Christi: Thos. J. Malone, Mrs. Lettie Wheeler and daughter, Cora Anne, Miss Edith Malone, Miss Mary Malone, Irwin Hall, Mrs. J. C. Malone, Dan Malone, all of Skidmore.
