MARTIN, Patrick, Beeville Bee, Friday, 19 Jul 1901: Patrick MARTIN, or Mr. Pat as he was familiarly called, died Monday morning at his home eleven miles west of town, aged 75 years. He had been affected with a weakness of the heart for some time but his death was unexpected and was a shock to his family. Sunday night after supper he remarked to his wife that he was feeling exceptionally well, better than he had felt in months, and sat and talked over the crop prospects with his wife until bedtime. Mr. Martin was an active gentleman and was in the habit of getting up early and starting the fire in the kitchen before the balance of the family arose. On Monday morning Mrs. Martin, not hearing him out in the kitchen went to his room to awaken him. He was in bed and seemed to be peacefully sleeping, and it was not until his wife took hold of his arm to rouse him that she discovered he was dead. He had passed from sleep into death without making any outcry or suffering any pain. Patrick Martin was horn in county Caven, Ireland, seventy five years ago. There he passed his boyhood days, removing in early manhood to Scotland, where he was married on August 10, 1863 to Mrs. Margaret BRADY. He emigrated to America in 1871, landing in New York City, where he remained until 1875, when he came to Bee county, settling some eleven miles west of Beeville, and where he resided until his death last Monday, the 15th of July, 1901. When Mr. Martin came to this country he was a poor man, but by hard work and frugal habits he had accumulated an ample store of this world's goods. He was a kind neighbor, a good citizen and a loving husband and father. His aged wife, eight children, two brothers, and one sister survive him. The children are John, of Ozone, Texas, Mrs. Maggie HART, Pat, Jr. Bee County, Mrs. Kate BRADY, Fairview, Texas, Philip J. of Beeville, James, Draydon, Tex, Hillary and Howard who live on the ranch. The funeral was at 7 o'clock, Tuesday morning and took place from the Catholic Church, of which the deceased had long been a member, and his remains were followed to his final resting place in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
