MATHIS, Thomas Edward, Beeville Bee, Friday, 27 Oct 1905: The death of Thomas Edward MATHIS, a well-known and popular young man, occurred the evening of the 24th, and leaving a devoted young wife and five children, the eldest but 13 years. Mr. Mathis had been suffering some months from throat trouble and failed to respond to the best medical treatment. Born in Murray, Kentucky, forty three years ago, early in life he was left an orphan and in his fourteenth year came to Texas to reside with his favorite uncle and namesake, T. H. Mathis of Rockport, and with an exception of a year spent at college in Poughkeepsie, N. Y., he was a resident of Rockport until his majority. In 1886 he came to Beeville and has since been connected with different commercial enterprises. In 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Mittie WILSON, who with their five children survives him. Of his immediate family he is survived by one brother and two sisters, all residents of Kentucky. He was a member of the Baptist Church. The funeral took place on Wednesday, the internment taking place in the new cemetery, the services at the gravesite were conducted by the Order of Woodmen of which he was a charter member. Friday, 27 Oct 1905: Rev. G. H. M. WILSON was called from Midland last week by the serious condition of his son-in-law, T. E. MATHIS, whose death occurred Tuesday. He will remain several days before returning home.
