Meinrath was born in Switzerland — Had long been in business here. John J. Meinrath, pioneer baker and grocery of Beeville died Monday, Ocober 1st at 7 P.M. at his home on Hefferman Street. He had been in failing health for the past nine months and his death was not unexpected. The deceased was born in Neukirch, Canton Shaffmanusen, Switzerland, September 20, 1871. He came to Texas with his parents and 8 brothers and sisters in March 1883 and landed in Corpus Christi where the family resided for almost eight years before coming to Beeville. The deceased was married in July 1919 to Miss Natalie HENKE of this city. He is survived by his grief stricken widow and three children, Martha, Mary and Helen Barbara Meinrath, also by one brother, August of this city; and five sisters. Mrs. M. E. Brauer, and F. Hartzendorf of Beeville, Mrs. Anne Uehlinger of Beaumont, Mrs. R. A. Wagner of Yoakum and Mrs. 0. R. Brauer of Monroe, Louisiana, brother Jacob and one sister, Mrs. A. Barthlome preceded him in death. Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's Church at 9 o'clock this morning. Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The large number attending the service and the floral offerings attested the high regard in which the deceased was held in this community where he spent the greater part of his life. MEINRATH, John Jacob, Beeville Picayune, Thursday, 20 Nov 1924: John Jacob MEINRATH Passes to His Reward Here Last Tuesday. John Jacob Meinrath, pioneer baker of this city died Tuesday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fritz Hartzendorf, the end coming at 4:30 o'clock. Mr. Meinrath had been in failing health for some time and had retired from business several years ago. The deceased was born in Switzerland on May 8, 1869. He came to America in 1883, settling at Corpus Christi where he remained until 1891 when he moved to Beeville and with his brother, John and August entered the bakery business. He continued in the business until ill health forced him to retire. Of a quiet disposition, Mr. Meinrath attended strictly to business and was always an upright honored citizen. He drove the bread wagon which the Meinrath Bakery operated for many years and in the early days of Beeville knew practically every man and woman in the city. Mr. Meinrath was a member of the Lutheran church from early youth. He was never married. Six sisters and two brothers remain to mourn the passing of this good man who cast his lot in Beeville so many years ago and remain through good years and bad, always willing to do his full part in any way able and progressive undertaking. They are Mrs. Fritz Hartzendorf and Mrs. M. E. Brauer of Beeville; Mrs. A. Barthlome and Mrs. J. J. Uehlinger of Corpus Christi; Mrs. R. A. Wagner of Yoakum and Mrs. R. 0. Brauer of Dallas; Messrs John and August of this city. The funeral service was held from the home of Mrs. Bauer on Hefferman street this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. A large number attended the funeral and the floral offerings were many and beautiful attesting to the high regard in which the deceased was held and the sympathy for the survivors. Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery.
