McCULLOM, G. B., Beeville Bee, Friday, 26 Feb 1892: Mr. G. B. McCullom, perhaps the oldest citizen of Beeville died last Friday at 1 AM at his residence in the southeast portion of this city. His death was not altogether unexpected, for several years his former robust health has been failing. So rapidly for the past six months he has been unable to leave his room. He was Kentuckian by birth, having been born in Shelbyville on the 10th day of March, 1818, consequently lacking a few days of being 74 years of age. When quite a young man he moved to Missouri and from there to Texas, coming to Bee county in 1855. Strict economy and fair dealing was a characteristic of his, and by it he accumulated considerable property in both the city and county. A rule of his was never to make a purchase or investment except for spot cash and there is not a dollar’s indebtedness on his estate. He first settled on the Medio, a few miles north of the present town of Beeville. A short time after Beeville was founded (about 1860) he removed here, where he resided ever since. He was a devoted member of the Baptist church.
