NATIONS, Audrey (Mrs. R. E.), Beeville Bee, Wednesday, 17 Dec 1890: Oakville, Dec. 15. The funeral of Mrs. R. E. Nations took place here Monday afternoon the 8th inst. As a mark of respect the stores and public school has been closed and the golden beams were being collected in the west. Her many friends stood by the grave with feelings of mixed sorrow and saw all that is mortal of Audrey Nations laid to rest. She had suffered a long and painful sickness, during which she displayed great courage and patience. But the skill of physicians, the tender care and prayers of relatives and friends could not prevail against her deadly foe, consumption. Death came not to her as the King of Terrors but as the Angel of Mercy. As the harper lays his hand on his harp strings to greet their sound, by her sublime faith “that golden key which opens the palace of eternity” she looked about the mists of life. May time, the great ameliorator of sorrow and healer of broken hearts repair theirs from the loss of a kind, dutiful wife and mother, a Noble Christian Lady.
