PICKARD, Matilda A., Beeville Picayune, Friday, 20 Dec 1912: Mrs. Matilda A. Pickard, was born near Richmond, Virginia, October 27, 1820. Her maiden name was Hughes. While small she moved with her parents to Tennessee where she was to many Dr. P. H. Pickard, February 11, 1847. To this union was born six children, five girls and one boy, two of whom survive her. There was added to the family twenty grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren. Her beloved husband departed this life in 1881, thus leaving her a widow for a period of thirty years. At an early age she was united with the Methodist Church and lived a consistent Christian life until death. She was stricken with paralysis at an early hour, December 8, 1912 and died about 5:30 a. m., December 9, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Kilpatrick. Funeral services were conducted by her grandson, Rev. Rueben Waltrip of Smithville, Texas, assisted by Bro. Wilson of the Beeville Methodist Church. The remains were laid to rest in the afternoon of December 9 in the new cemetery.
