POTTER, William Obediah, Beeville Bee, Friday, 25 Nov 1904: The death of W. 0. POTTER, one of Beeville' s best known citizens, on Thursday morning, cast a gloom over what would have been a happy Thanksgiving. In the death of Mr. Potter, the town has lost, if not one of it's wealthiest, one of its most enterprising, generous and whole-souled citizens. His death was the termination of a short illness, but he had been experiencing a decline in health for the past year. William Obediah Potter was a native of Montgomery, Alabama where he was born April 7, 1847. He was possibly the youngest Federate veteran in the state, having run away from home at the outbreak of the war, when he was only fourteen years of age and followed the fortunes of the south through four years bitter struggle. On June 19, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella A. CLANCY, who with nine children survive him. In 1873 he moved to North Texas where he resided until 1890, when he became a citizen of Beeville where from a small business at the beginning he has built up a lucrative trade with his eldest son as partner. The funeral will take place this afternoon at three o-clock with Masonic ceremonies, the interment taking place in the new cemetery.
