SALSBURY, S. F., Beeville Bee, Friday, 22 May 1908: Engineer S. F. SALSBURY, for twenty-five years in the service of the G. H. & S. A. RR, and who made him home in Beeville some six years ago, was killed Tuesday night six miles from Victoria while on his regular run from Houston. A stag caused the wreck. The headlights was not burning, 'tis said, and the animal tried to butt the engine off the track. In doing so it lowered its head and the horns which will not crush, derailed the engine. Fireman Fletcher Jones, well known here, was badly scalded but will recover. Many will remember the dead engineer and his family as active workers in the Methodist church while residents of Beeville, and sincerely regret to learn of his death. His remains were interred in Cuero, his present home and a special train was placed at the service of his family who were visiting in San Antonio at the time.
