SHIPP, Puttman, Beeville Bee, Thursday, 23 July 1890:

From Oakville, July 14. A great bereavement has fallen upon our county in the death of 
Mr. Puttman Shipp, who died in the Santa Rosa hospital in San Antonio on the 6th inst.  
His remains were brought home and interred in the family burial grounds at his beautiful 
residence on the Nueces River, on the 8th inst.  Neighbors, friends and relatives for miles 
around assembled around at the grave to pay the last sad rites that man can pay to man, 
and the presence of so great a number upon only a few hours notice testified to the high 
appreciation and great sorrow.
