SIMS, William Humphrey, Beeville Bee, Friday, 24 Jan 1908: Obituary. Again it becomes our sad duty to chronicle the passing away of one of our oldest citizens, the angel of death claiming the soul of William Humphrey SIMS on Friday morning, Jan. 17th 1908, after an illness of twenty-five months, the last eight of which confined him to his bed. Death came as the inevitable result of that awful disease, cancer of the stomach, and relieved him from his months of suffering. The subject of this sketch, third child of Mr. & Mrs. Marshall Sims in a family of eight children (all of whom are dead but three) was born in Tennessee in November 25, 1846 and when a young man moved to Texas, settling at Temple where he remained until 17 years ago, when he moved to Bee County. At Temple he learned the ginning business and has ever followed that occupation here, making a success of it financially and giving excellent service to his patrons. He was married in March 1882 to Miss Lena GIBSON and to this union five children came to bless their home, all of whom are now living, as follows: Olin, Ira, Alvin, and Miss Ermine and Willie of this city, who with Mrs. Sims, two brothers and a sister of the deceased are mourning the loss of a loving father, ideal husband and kind and generous brother. Mr. Sims leaves a daughter, Mrs. G. F. MILES, of Rosebud, by a former wife, whom he married August 1873 and who died September 1880. The deceased's brother, L. G. SIMS of Temple, attended the funeral, which was held from the Methodist church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, the remains being followed to their final resting place in the new cemetery.
