SMITH, Louis Montgomery, Beeville Bee, Friday, 14 Feb 1908: Louis M. SMITH Died at Mineral Texas Saturday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m., Louis Montgomery SMITH, aged 56 years. Mr. Smith's death came as a great shock to his host of friends, who had not heard of his brief illness and but a few days before had seen him hale and hearty. Pneumonia set in Monday and the angel of death claimed his soul before the end of the week. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. I. T. Morris of the Methodist church from the residence of his brother W. M. Smith, in this city Sunday afternoon, interment in the old cemetery. (Evergreen) Louis Montgomery Smith was born in Alabama on May 29, 1852, and when a small boy moving with his parents to Bee County, Texas settling first in 1862 near Pettus, six years later moving to Beeville where he grew to manhood. In 1875 he was married to Miss Jennie McDONALD of Beeville and moved to Mineral. Eleven children were born to them, all but one of whom are living as follows: Willie, Louis, Raymond, Robert, Marshall, Grady, Glen, Nellie, Mamye and Genie. Sidney died about two years ago. Mr. Smith was the 7th child of a family of eleven. His parents were Mr. & Mrs. Thomas J. Smith, and all but one brother and five sisters preceded him to the great beyond. County Treasurer. W. M. Smith of this city is the brother and Mesdames, Margie RAY, and S. R. TAYLOR, sisters, also live in Beeville. Other sisters are Mrs. S. E. LANCASTER of Fentrell, Mrs. A. J. LANCASTER of San Antonio and Mrs. J. F. RAY of Pettus. Mr. Smith was a good man, well liked and influential in the community where he spent the greater part of his life and for fourteen years represented his community as county commissioner.
