THOMAS, Micajah, Beeville Bee, Friday, 9 Jan 1903: Micajah THOMAS, one of the oldest residents of the county, died very suddenly at his home three miles east of town on Sunday morning. He had been to town the evening before and seemed to be in his accustomed good health and spirits. At supper he ate heartily and retired at his usual bedtime. In the early morning his wife heard him groaning and called a daughter who came with a light and found that life was extinct, death having evidently come painlessly and without a struggle. The deceased had been a resident of this and Goliad county since before the civil war. He was a native of Mississippi, being born in Jasper County on October 10, 1828, and was consequently a few weeks past his seventy-fourth year. He removed from that county to Rankin county, where on June 10th, 1852 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret A. MEYERS, their union having existed unbroken until now, for more than fifty years. In 1855, they moved to Texas and settled near LaGrange and to Gonzales County in 1858. The outbreak of the civil war found Mr. Thomas a resident of Bee County and he enlisted in the service of the Confederacy, which he served faithfully until the close of the war. Since that time he has lived continuously in Bee County and has devoted himself to farming. He has always been known as an honest and upright man. He leaves an aged wife and eight children to mourn his death. His eldest son, M. Thomas is a resident of Redonda California. His third son, B. E. Thomas is a resident of Brownsville, while the others, John and Joseph Thomas, Mesdames J. W. and B. F. Scott and two youngest daughters, Misses Rejane and Nettie, are residents of Beeville. The funeral took place on Monday under direction of the Beeville Masonic lodge, of which he was one of the original members.
