THOMPSON, Allen Jasper, Beeville Bee, 29 Jan 1925: Pioneer of Bee County Died at Clareville A. J. Thompson expires after illness extending over several weeks, Came to Bee County over fifty-four years ago One more of Bee County's hardy pioneers has answered the last roll call. At 10:20 Saturday morning January 24th, A. J. Thompson, for 54 years a resident of this county, passed away quietly at his home near Clareville, surrounded by his children. The cause of his death was a gangrene poisoning which was caused by trouble he had been having with his teeth. After the trouble had gone along for some time he had the defective teeth extracted but he had waited too long. The poison having gone all through his whole system and from the first, physicians were doubtful of his recovery. He was buried in Glenwood Cemetery Monday afternoon. The services being said by Rev. George W. Springfield of the First Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. W. Albritten of the First Methodist Church. Allen Jasper Thompson was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi, January 5, 1850. He was the eleventh of twelve children of William and Mahala Foster Thompson. In 1869 he came to Texas and settled at Waxahachie. He spent one year there and at Fairview and came to Bee County in the fall of 1870. Since that time he has made Bee County his home, living in the Clareville Community. On November 13, 1878 he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Nutt. Eleven children came to bless this union; ten of whom with their mother, surviving the passing of their father. One child, Little Buck, died in infancy. Those surviving their father are; Floyd of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Sam Love, Belton; Mrs. M. M. Longino, Hamilton; Mrs. Dolph Fleming, Falfurrias; Winston, who resides in the old family home; Robert A., Big Springs; Ross, Bakersfield, California; Lois, Mary and Horace, all of whom are still at home. Besides the children, there are 20 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Jane Neal of Alabama, and one brother, Frank of Cooper. All of the children were at the bedside of their father during his last illness except Ross, who was ill in a hospital in California. Mrs. Love and Bob were not present when he breathed his last, though, they being called to their homes on account of illness in their respective families. Deceased has been a member of the Baptist Church, having accepted that faith in early manhood. Honorary pallbearers were I. J. Miller, John McCollom, Felix J. Hart, Charley Roberts, Will Nutt, and E. B. Hall; active pallbearers were Grover Naylor, Jim Lott, Mathis Brown, Allee Nutt, R. E. Miller, and Max Springer. Those who came from out of town to attend the funeral were; Mrs. Kate Thompson, Yoakum; Mrs. F. J. Ferguson, San Antonio; Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Thompson, Hebbronville; Mrs. Roy Thompson, Calvin; Allie Mary and Miss Stella Smith, San Antonio; Mr. & Mrs. Albert Nutt, Sabine; Ardel Thompson, Temple; Dolph Fleming, Falfurrias and Max Thompson of San Antonio.
