TRAWEEK, Miss Hattie, Beeville Bee or Picayune, Friday, 22 Nov 1912, Front Page: Girl Accidentally Killed Miss Hattie Traweek Meets Tragic Death At Candlish. Shot Gun in Hands of Small Nephew Unintentionally Discharged, Girl Shot Through Heart and Died Instantly. Miss, Hattie Traweek, fifteen year old daughter of D. H. Traweek, residing on the W. D. Ellis ranch near Candlish four miles east of Beeville, was accidentally shot and instantly killed Sunday afternoon shortly after noon. The unfortunate girl and her ten¬year-old nephew had just returned from hunting, both having shot guns. The young lady laughingly told her little nephew who held a 20-guage shot gun that she could pull the hammer back, pull the trigger and hold the hammer without firing the gun, explaining to him how to accomplish the feat. When he attempted to duplicate the trick, the gun accidentally fired and the girl dropped where she stood, dead. The entire load entered her back, passing through her heart producing instant death. The little fellow who fired the fatal shot is prostrate as are the girl's parents, brothers and sisters.
