WHITWORTH, John A., Beeville Bee, Friday, 20 Sep 1901: The remains of John A. WHITWORTH, a well-to-do farmer of LaPara, Live Oak County were brought from Karnes County last Friday evening and on Saturday was interred in the old cemetery. He had been living with his mother on a farm in the vicinity of LaPara and has a brother living near Skidmore and also one in Kerr County. Last week he undertook to visit the latter going through the country by team. A few days afterwards the news of his death in Karnes County reached here. He was found in his wagon about a mile out of town on the Karnes City and Kenedy road with a bullet wound to his head. The unfortunate man was removed from the wagon and an investigation was made and revealed the fact that deceased had been shot by his own gun.
