Lt. Col. Harvey M. Jones, USAF. (Retired), passed away Friday, March 19, 1976 at the age of 67 years. Survivors include his wife and son and a grandaughter; sisters, Irene Schmidt, Kenosha, Wisc. and Mrs. Lyda Holleran, Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Emmath Jones and Fred Jones, both of Two Rivers, Wisc. Services Tuesday March 23, 8:30 a.m. at Castle Hills Christian Church, 6209 West Ave. with the Rev. Harry L. Owens officiating. Interment with full military honors in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Arrangements with Oak Hills 8050 Fredericksburg Road 696-7111.
Submitters Additional Info: Lt. Col. Harvey Jones was born the third child of Frederick T. and Ida (Freitag) Jonas on 17 Feb 1909 in North Dakota and grew up in Two Creeks, Wisconsin. He died 19 Mar 1976 in San Antonio.
He entered the military at the age of 17, served in the Panama Canal Zone, World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his efficiency and outstanding ability in the execution of all tasks put before him in 1953 and in Feb. 1955, Lt. Col. Jones was awarded the Korean Ulchi by Maj. Gen. Chang Duk Change, vice staff chief of the Republic of Korea Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The Korean award is the equivalent to the U.S. Legion of Merit. It was given in recognition of "his outstanding performance of duty which materially aided the Republic of Korea in its fight against Communist aggression.
