Krueger Pauline Godkin

Krueger Pauline (Lozano) Godkin, loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on May 19, 2001 at the age of 101. She was born Pauline (Paula) Ramirez on April 17, 1900 in Tampampalon San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

When Pauline was a small child, her mother, Juanita Ramirez, married Walter Godkin and they resided on a hacienda near Tampico, Mexico. Around 1917 the Godkin family fell victim to the Mexican Revolution. When revolutionaries burned their hacienda, they were forced to flee Mexico for their lives.

Traveling by horse and burro drawn wagon, they made their way across Mexico to Texas, residing in San Antonio for a few years before settling in Pipe Creek, TX. There the Godkin family owned and operated the sprawling 1,500 acre Spicewood Springs Ranch where they raised cattle, goats and sheep, and operated a large dairy farm with inn and resort for travelers to the hill country.

In 1920, Pauline married John Varvaro Lozano (son of Antonio Lozano and Ursula Guerra, who was a direct descendant of the original Canary Islanders). They eloped in a covered wagon to San Antonio where they lived and raised their two children, John Charles Lozano and Irene (Lozano) Maldonado.

Pauline worked for the Juvenile Manufacturing Company, Eskay Manufacturing Company, the WFA, during World War II, she was a clothing inspector of military uniforms for the Army Quarter Master Corps at Fort Sam Houston, and she was an LVN for many years at the Robert B. Green Hospital.

In 1951, Pauline married John Krueger of San Antonio and they settled in the hills of Helotes, TX, where Pauline lived the rest of her life. She was a longtime parish member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes.

A big baseball fan, Pauline was a longtime season ticket holder to the San Antonio Missions baseball team. She attended each game faithfully from early 1960s until early 1990s when failing eyesight prevented her from driving to the evening games.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Krueger and John V. Lozano; mother, Juanita Godkin; stepfather, Walter Godkin; brothers, Charles Godkin, Leo Godkin, Pat Godkin and Ed Godkin; sister, Emma Smith, and daughter, Irene Maldonado. Her survivors include sister, Juanita Alonzo; son, Johnny Charles Lozano Sr (Ramona); grandchildren, Johnny C. Lozano Jr (Magdalena), Sylvia A. Rodela (Cheno), San Antonio, TX, Alfred E. Lozano (Martha), Okinawa, Japan, Carolyn Weber (Steve), Linden, VA, Hilbert Maldonado (Lucille), Austin, TX; 12 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at 6:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 P.M. at Alamo Funeral Chapels. Mrs. Krueger will lie in state at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes, TX on Thursday, May 24, 2001 at 9:00 A.M. with the Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at the Godkin Family Cemetery in Pipe Creek, TX. Arrangements are with: Alamo Funeral Chapels.
