Peggy S. Lloyd

 

A native of Hope, Arkansas, Peggy Lloyd is a former teacher of English and holds Master’s degrees in English and history.  She served in the United States Peace Corps in the late 1960s in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and also taught English in Germany, France and England in the 1970s.  She has had extensive experience in real estate, courthouse research and mapmaking.  She taught English as a Second Language at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock in the 1980s and 90s before returning to graduate school in history.  She served as the curator of the Nevada County Depot and Museum at Prescott, Arkansas, from 2003 to 2005.  Since late 2005, she has been the archival manager of the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives, now a branch of the Arkansas History Commission, at Washington, Arkansas.  She is a past winner of the Lucille Westbrook prize for local history and published her article “The Howard County Race Riot of 1883” in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly in Winter, 2000.  She has written many articles for newspapers in Southwest Arkansas and is a frequent speaker at civic clubs, organizations and conferences.  Her research interests are the history of Southwest Arkansas, African-American history and archeology.
