George Murray established
the Standard Abstract Company in 1912 or
1915. He sold to H. W. Sadler prior
to 1917. Sadler sold to Bettie
McCulloch and Sam Woodward in 1918, and in
1919 Sam Woodward sold his interest in the
company to Bettie McCulloch. She
continued as manager of the company until
her death in 1967. Weah McCulloch
joined the company in 1932 as co-owner and
assistant manager. In 1967, she
became owner and manager. She sold
the company to Don Johnson and Ross L.
Jones on January 1, 1978, at which time
she retired.
Offices
were originally located in the First
National Bank Building, but were moved
to the 4th floor of the Office
Building, now known as Coleman Bank
Building, in 1927. Standard Abstract
Company was the first tenant to pay
rent when the building was completed
in 1927. Offices remained on the
4th floor until moved to the 5th floor
around 1980. The
company changed its name to Coleman County
Title Company in 1981 and is owned by Don
Johnson, Ross L. Jones and Stephen
Autry.
