The owners and employees of
Henderson Funeral Homes of Coleman and
Santa Anna are proud of the heritage that
their business has contributed to Coleman
County, being the oldest established
funeral service in the county. The
business was established in 1877 in the
gap of the Santa Anna Mountain, being
known as "The Gap." This was a
general store that carried a line of
caskets.
Grady and Rufus
Adams purchased the store in 1911, and
later, S. W. Childers bought into the
business. This store burned in 1918
and was rebuilt in the present site of the
town of Santa Anna under the name of Adams
Mercantile.
In 1928, R. W.
Hosch went into partnership with Mr. Adams
and in 1929, the Hosch family bought out
Mr. Adams' equity in the business and
operated under the Hosch name until 1972
when Donnie M. and Christina Henderson
purchased the business and it became
Henderson Funeral Home. In 1973,
they opened the second location at 1600
South Concho Street in Coleman.
