C. E. (or Cy) Burns was born
October 20, 1872 at Granbury, Texas.
He came to Coleman County with his parents
while he was just a young man. He
married Mary Jane Pruitt of Camp Colorado
in 1893. They had four children,
Ethel, Edith, Carl, and Gordon; all were
born in Coleman County.
Ethel married
Solon Wilson. They were parents of
three children: Thelma (Wilson) Ivie of
Granbury; W. C. Wilson of May; and Woodrow
Wilson of Santa Anna.
Edith married
Harry McFerrin; to them were born six
children: Patsy (McFerrin) Hicks of Waco;
Estell (McFerrin) Neilson of Sunrise
Beach, Missouri; Leon McFerrin of Houston;
Mary Ruth (McFerrin) Callum of Abilene;
Joyce (McFerrin) Profitt of Abilene; and
Sue (McFerrin) Windam of West, Texas.
Carl married
Pauline Shillings of Burkett; to them were
born six children: Carllene (Burns)
Richerson of Round Rock; Faye (Burns) Pace
of San Antonio; Tommy Burns of
Breckenridge; Lanette Burns of Burkett;
Richard Burns of Round Rock; and Jerry
(Burns) Young of Lubbock. Carl is
deceased, his wife and one daughter still
live in Coleman County.
Gordon married
Melba Mitchell of Cross Plains; to them
were born three children: Glend Gale
(Burns) Cobb of Rio Vista, Texas; Robert
Gorden Burns of Crowley; and Gerald Allen
Burns of Comanche.
All the
grandchildren were born in Coleman County,
except two or three, but in later years
moved to other places.
Mrs Solon Wilson
and son Woodrow and Mrs Carl Burns and
daughter, Lanette still live in Coleman
County.
Cy Burns has a
host of great and great-great
grandchildren living. I could never
name them all, so I will say "God bless"
all who are in the Cy Burns families and
who ever will be a member of this great
family.
