      Samuel Lee Oscar Cannon (Sam) was born December 4, 1873 in Pontotoc, Mississippi, the second son of Thomas Brown Cannon and Sarah Jane McKnight.  Sam had two brothers and three sisters.  On December 19, 1897, Sam married Susan Alma Flaherty, who was also born in Pontotoc.  They came to Coleman County around 1910 with their three children.  They are:

     (1) Edna Irene, born in Pontotoc, married Dood (J. D.) Henderson. (See J. D. "'Dood"' Henderson);

     (2) Cecil Lavert, born in Pontotoc, married Bessie Lee Lewis in Abilene, June 5, 1926.  One daughter, Peggy June, born August 4, 1930 in Santa Anna, where they lived until after Peggy's first year in school.  The family moved to Monahans.  Peggy June married William
Glendell (Glen) Chauncey, June 1, 1948, in Monahans.  Two children: Donny Mack, May 28, 1951, and Glenda Lanette, June 4, 1952, both born in Snyder.  Bessie Cannon died December 1, 1965 in Odessa, and Cecil, October 2, 1979, in Lewisville, both buried in Odessa.

     (3) Eunice Alene, died May 19, 1910, at two years of age, in Coleman County, buried in Santa Anna.

     Sam Cannon died December 31, 1940, in Santa Anna.  His widow, known to so many as Ma Cannon, remained in Santa Anna until her death, December 12, 1969, both buried beside Eunice in Santa Anna.
