Family by T. A. Clark

and Its People, 1985 edited by Judia and Ralph Terry, and

Tommy and Marie Clark and
young daughter, Marianne, moved to Coleman
in 1933 from Ft. Worth. Tommy Clark,
born in Silsbee, and Marie Threlkeld, born
in Muskogee, Oklahoma, were married in
Wichita Falls, in June, 1929. Their
other daughter, Carolyn, a Coleman native
was married to M. L. (Leon) Buck
(deceased), and her children are daughter,
Marsha, and two sons, Tommy Leon, and
Rickey (deceased). Marianne is
married to Jere Kirk, and they have three
daughters: Debbie, Virginia and Melinda,
and one son, Steve, and daughter-in-law
Penny, who are parents of son
"Caleb." Home place is Dyersburg,
Tennessee. Both of the Clark's
daughters are in the teaching
profession. Clark, and a partner, in
1933, established "Clark Auto Parts" to
serve the automotive trade in Coleman and
adjoining counties with parts and supplies
needed in the businesses. In 1968,
Clark sold that business, which is
operated as 100,000 Auto Parts, and
retired.
The Clark's
parents were old time Texans, their
ancestors of prior Civil War days.
Clark's great-grand-father,
Edward Clark (1815-1880) served as Texas'
governor from March 16 to November 7,
1861, when then Gov. Sam Houston refused
to go along with Texas secession from the
Union.
Mr. and Mrs.
Clark have remained active in church and
civic work, he being named an outstanding
citizen in 1979 by the Coleman Chamber of
Commerce. He is presently (1983) a
Sunday School teacher at the First United
Methodist Church, and a long-time member
of the Board of Directors of Holiday Hill
Care Center, a nursing home and
apartments, publicly owned by all the
citizens and friends, former and present,
of Coleman and Coleman County, the
facility being built entirely from public
subscriptions and contributed work and
materials.
Mrs. Clark is one
of the founders of the Nichols Bible
Class, as well as one of the Women's
Missionary Societies of Coleman's First
United Methodist Church. She is also
an active member of the Overall-Morris
Ladies Hospital Auxiliary.
