Joe Gordon Clark married
Dorothy Nell Broadley, August 20, 1930,
born in Joplin, Missouri, daughter of
William Harry and Birdie R. (Zartman)
Broadley. The Broadley family had
moved to Ft. Worth when Dorothy was quite
young. Joe and Dorothy lived on the
160 acre farm about two miles north of
Trickham. the farm had been purchased by
his mother, Mary Jane (Legett) Clark (see
Laughlins). Mary Jane lived with Joe
and Dorothy for a few months; she died
November 21, 1930. The Clark house
was large, and it sat on a hill about a
mile from the Santa Anna to Trickham
road. The heating and cooking was
done with wood stoves. REA brought
electricity to the house in 1949.
The house never had plumbing. The
family moved to Santa Anna in 1955.
They had six children: Mary Lou, November
12, 1931; Luther Joe, July 28, 1934; Betty
Jean, March 30, 1937; Jerry Wayne,
November 4, 1939; Robert Carl, December
31, 1941; and Raymond Earl, June 18, 1944.
Joe G. Clark died January 1, 1955 and
Dorothy died February 11, 1963, both
buried at Trickham. All the children
started to school at the Mukewater School,
then later transferred to Santa Anna.
Mary Lou
graduated from Santa Anna High School in
1948, moved to Dallas in 1951 and married
(1) Morris
Glenn Early, July 27, 1953. They had
five children: Mary Ann, July 16, 1954;
Morris Glenn Jr., (Tommy), September 9,
1956; Cynthia Nell, October 6, 1957;
Kathryn Sue, April 19, 1959; and Linda
Gail, July 25, 1961. On July 24,
1978, Mary Ann Early married (2) Paul
Bradley Steiner. They live in
Dallas.
Luther Joe (L.
J.) finished Santa Anna High School with
the class of 1953. He worked for
many years at the Santa Anna Tile
Company. He was active in the
Volunteer Fire Department and the
Jaycees. He also served as Fire
Marshall for several years. In 1965,
he moved to Stephenville to attend
Tarleton State College, married
Vickie Paulette Carleton, June 4,
1967. They have two children: Jeff
Carleton, born October 19, 1978; and Janet
Gail, May 5, 1980. They live in Fort
Worth.
Betty Jean
finished Santa Anna High School with the
class of 1955, attended the University of
Texas. She married Santiago Vera, a
chemist-geologist engineer. They
lived for several years in Venezuela . All
four of their children were born there:
Betisa, May 28, 1959; Mary Ann Nieves,
June 3, 1960; Santiago Patrick, October
31, 1961; and James Santiago, July 26,
1965. Santiago Patrick Vera died April 24,
1964, in Venezuela. The family now
lives in Houston.
Jerry Wayne was
in the class of 1956 at Santa Anna High
School. He served 3 years in the Army. He
married Lawanda Jo McCarrell, November 3,
1960 (see McCarrell Family). Jerry
worked for the Telephone Company in Santa
Anna for several years. In 1967,
they moved to San Marcos. They have
two daughters: Carole Ann, born July 22,
1966 in Brownwood; Pamela Kay, December
16, 1969 in San Marcos. Jerry works
for the San Marcos Telephone Company.
Robert Carl
married Judith McFarling, February 24,
1968, in Dallas. He is a machine
operator and Judith is a tape-drill
operator, live at Garland.
Raymond Earl was
in the class of 1962 at Santa Anna High
School, graduated from Tarleton State
College in
1966. He entered the Air Force and
is a Major at present. He received a
Master of Science degree from Texas
A&M in 1972. He married Kassie
Marie Jones, August 21, 1971, three
children: Jayson Russell, born July 3,
1973 in San Antonio; Eric Stewart, April
16, 1975 in Ohio; and Kristin Marie,
September 26, 1979 in West Germany.
At present, Raymond is assigned to Elgin
Air Force Base. The family lives in
Shalimar, Florida.
