On the 1923 map and in the 1929 city directory, 302 West Pecan Street is referred to as 300 West Pecan street, but after that time it was referred to as 302 West Pecan Street.  See 302 West Pecan Street.


The old Dunn home at 302 West Pecan Street was torn down in the early 1950's to make way for an implement lot.  This lot was later divided, creating 300 West Pecan Street and 306 West Pecan Street.  The building for the Coleman Production Credit Association was built at 300 West Pecan Street.  Campbell's Pharmacy was built at 306 West Pecan Street.

Melton Is Names Purchasing Agent For Highway Dept.


     W. E. (Gene) Melton, veteran West Texas banker, left Monday for Austin. to assume the recently created position of purchasing agent for the State Highway Department. a position to which he was appointed by the board of control.

     The position
was created by the 48th Legisiature and became effective on September 1.

     Mr. Melton is a native of Brown County but was reared at Cottonwood in Callahan County.  In 1906 he was elected treasurer of Callahan County and moved to Baird.  He later was elected tax collector of that county. 

     He served as credit mana
ger: for B. L. Boydstun's five general mercantile stores with headquarters at Baird, and for several years was cashier of the First State Bank of Baird.


     In
January 1934, he was elected manager of the Coleman Production Credit Association, at which time he moved to the headquarters office in Coleman.  The oganization covers Coleman, Brown,
Taylor, Callahan, Runnels and Concho: Counties.  The association grew under his direction to a volume of a million dollars. 

     In October of 1942, Mr.
Melton accepted the position of assistant disbursement officer for Brown-Bellows Construction at the Naval Ammunition Depot at McAlester, Okla.

The office of the the Coleman Independent School District and the superintendent, moved into the Coleman Production Credit Association building.
