SUCCESSFUL CLOSING OF ANOTHER SCHOOL YEAR

Rev. W. M. Williams, editor of the Christian Courier at Dallas, preached the baccalaureate sermon at the Methodist church last Sunday at 11 a.m. The house was filled to overflowing and they heard a fine sermon. It was a very practical sermon. The church was decorated specially for the occasion. The music [was] under the direction of Miss Kate Smith, who sang a solo.

The senior class play - "Every Student" - was given Monday night to a crowded house. "A Midnight Fantasy" and "Our Southland Melodies" were included in the program. The entire program was under the direction of Miss Esther McDuffie, the teacher of expression, and was splendidly carried out before a very appreciative audience.

Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. the senior class gave their regular program in which Hazelle Bateman read the class history, Morris Cheatham and Lucille Morton rendered piano solos, Estelle Bracken read the class prophecy, Winnie Amyett read the class poem, Velma and Wilma Maddox distributed the class gifts, Ernest Lusk read the class will and Stephen Ellis delivered an impromptu class farewell. Park Stovall, president of the juniors, replied to the class farewell. The under classes showed much class spirit by giving a number of class yells, songs and so forth.

Tuesday night was the final closing exercises and diplomas of graduation were given to Winnie Amyett, Hazelle Bateman, Estelle Bracken, Morris Cheatham, Howard Douglass, Stephen Ellis, Ernest Lusk Velma Maddox, Wilma Maddox, Amy Moore, Lucille Morton, Viola Parker, Alma Pittman, Lillian Smothermon.

The address made by Dr. Ivan Lee Holt of Southern Methodist University, Dallas, was one of the [best] ever heard in Italy.

Dr. Franklin Moore delivered scholarships to Lucille Morton and Morris Cheatham, having tied for first honors, Alma Pittman winning second honors.

There were many compliments passed on the class of 1917, these compliments bearing on several points.

Estill Foster Parker and Miss Mildred Moore Saunders surprised their friends by stealing a march on them and getting married. They were joined in the holy bonds of wedlock Tuesday, May 22, 1917, at 8:15 p.m. at the home of Miss Josie Reed. Dr. Franklin Moore, a long-time friend of the bride, performed the ceremony in the presence of Mrs. Reed and Miss Lila Stroud.

The groom is the youngest of Mayor and Mrs. J. M. Parker's two sons and a well known and prominent young man, while the bride has been a high school teacher in our school the past two years and one who is very popular. The News Herald hopes that they may have pleasant and smooth sailing the sea of matrimony.
