Missionary Baptist Church

The Missionary Baptist Church was first organized in Athens on West Scott Street in October of 1947.  The present church building, which is valued at approximately $13,000, was built in 1951.  It is located at 201 Cayuga Drive.  Pastor of the church is the Rev. Bill Henry, who has served the church since August of this year.  He and his family will reside at the new parsonage purchased by the church in August.  The parsonage is located at 512 Davis Drive.  Membership of the church is recorded at 157.  The board of deacons includes James Frances, Ira Gardenshire, Milton Herod, A.E. Carson, Buddy Anding, and Ed McGloung.  Anding serves as Sunday school superintendent and Herod is director of the Training Services.  McCloung is president of the Brotherhood and Mrs. Marvin Cook heads the women's organization.  Serving as pianist for her church is Mrs. Ira Gardenshire.  Music director is Alton AllenMrs. Ira Ramsey is church clerk and James Frances is church treasurer.  Bro. Ed Byers is assistant pastor.
