Comments: Susanah Carter evidently was on the trail to Texas in
1850. On
a deed executed in Gilmer, Upshur Co. TX in 1863, she is called
Susan
Harris__wife of Wesley B. Harrison, so Harrison was alive in
1863.
Another indication he was alive in 1863 is found On the
Confederate
Indigent Families Lists (1863-1865) the name of Mrs.Susanah
Harrison
appears in the listing in Upshur Co. TX.
His descendant stated that he had died of the measles, and that
his
saddle was sent home, while with the Confederate forces.
He joined the Army in Upshur Co. TX,Susanah's family lived in
Upshur Co.
TX. and she bought land from her parents in 1863 in Upshur Co.
Tx. Surely
her children were born there, but it is not proved. 1840 Census
Tennessee, 1860 Census Upshur Co. TX.
Oral family history from Floy Grier Wofford who told me the story
of
Susan coming to Texas.
Sources: Susanah Carter Harrison Powell's Bible Records with the
dates of
her children's births recorded. Her birth is also recorded as
1834, but
her gravestone has 1829.This does not match the 1900 census of
Henderson
Co. TX.which has 1835.Susan could not write, the handwriting
matches that
of her second husband, William R. Powell, as it appears in early
land
