Henderson Co. was established on April 27, 1846, and
named it in honor of
James Pickney Henderson, (1808-1858) first
governor of the state of Texas. The county was formed
from parts of Nacogdoches and Houston counties, it was
organized on August 4, 1846. Kaufman and Van Zandt
counties were formed out of Henderson Co. in 1848. Athens
is the county seat.

Annual Boyd Reunion
Saturday, August 22, 2026
The descendants of Andy
E. Boyd, Charlie R. Boyd, Luther Boyd, John D. Boyd and Martha "Aunt
Mat" Boyd-Moody.
Family and friends will be gathering on Saturday August 22, 2026
starting at 10:00 A.M.
The reunion will be in the
fellowship room of the Willow Springs Baptist Church in Athens, TX.
The church is located at 11544 FM 59 South (59 @ CR 1200)
This reunion also includes members from the Burden, Fuller,Tapley
and Trammell families that are descendants of the Boyd family.
Please bring a covered dish and a dessert. If you can not bring a
covered dish or dessert that is fine just come anyway.
Paper goods, plastic forks, spoons and bottle water will be
provided.
Hopefully this year we will have a few that have not came before, or
perhaps you have not been in awhile we would love to see you.
We are doing our best to keep this annual reunion going but we need
your help to do that. Sure there is social media, facetime, video
calling
and other apps but it is not the same as
seeing a family member face to face. I have heard a couple of people
say they do not or would not know anyone there and my response to
that is if you do not come then you will never know any of your
extended family.
All family members and long time friends are invited.
I plan to be at the Church by 9:30 A.M.
