Aged Resident of Baxter Dies Monday Morning

Mrs. Ophelia Frizzell, 78, who had been ill for several days, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Knight, in the Baxter community at 2:18 o’clock Monday morning.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 o’clock Monday afternoon with burial following in the Davis graveyard in the Baxter community. Rev. D. R. Cartlidge conducted the services.
Deceased had been a member of the Baptist Church the greater part of her life.
She is survived by three sons, Hall Frizzell of Malakoff; T. D. and C. D. Frizzell of Athens and one daughter, Mrs. W. E. Knight of Baxter, with whom she made her home.
Nine grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
Mrs. Frizzell was a native of Henderson county, having been born in the Baxter community. Her parents were named Ware and came to this county from Kentucky, being among the first settlers here. Her husband preceded her in death some twenty-six years ago.

Browning Infant Dies at Malakoff

Rita Eileen Browning, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Browning of Malakoff, died at 4:15 o’clock Wednesday evening, only eleven hours after it’s birth. The child was a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Browning of Athens.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 o’clock Thursday morning at the Browning residence on South Palestine street. Rev. D .R. Cartlidge, pastor of the West Athens Baptist Church, being in charge. Interment following in the family burial plat in the Rock Hill cemetery.

C. E. Johnson, 59, Dies at Mexia; Funeral Sunday

C. E. Johnson, 59, father of Miss Ann Johnson of Athens died at 6:30 o’clock Saturday morning at the Brown hospital in Mexia.
He was a resident of Teague, Texas. Mr. Johnson had undergone an operation at the hospital last Sunday.
Miss Johnson of Athens, had remained at the bedside from Saturday throught Wednesday when she returned here. She was called back to Mexia Saturday morning at 5:45 o’clock , her father passing away while she was enroute to his bedside.
Funeral services were held at Teague Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. A number of Athenians attended.
Three daughters survive. They are Miss Johnson of Athens; Mrs. Fred J. Doering of Mexia and Mrs. A. M. Hampton of Itasca. Mrs. Johnson died in 1933.

C. N. Walls, 89, Found Dead at Fincastle Home

C. N. Walls, aged citizen of the Fincastle community was found dead at his home a quarter of a mile of Fincastle lake, on Sunday afternoon about 5:30 by Don Palmer, who dropped by to make a neighborly call. Mr. Walls, 89, was lying on the floor and indications were that he had been dead for several hours. Mr. Palmer notified Justice Fred Ayres who held an inquest and pronounced the death due to natural causes.
Funeral services for the deceased were held at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon with burial at LaRue. Carroll-Lehr Undertaking Company brought the body here to prepare it for burial.
Mr. Walls had lived in the Fincastle area for many years and had lived alone. He had not been in the best of health for the past year and a half.
Justice Ayres said that the deceased had no known relatives.

Death Claims Eustace Woman on Wednesday

Mrs. S. C. Campbell, 50, member of one of Western Henderson County’s best know families, died Wednesday at 12:30 (noon) in Baylor hospital at Dallas where she had been a patient for a month. Mrs. Campbell, a longtime resident of the Eustace community, had undergone an operation three weeks ago, attending physicians despairing then of all hope to save her life.
Deceased was the mother of B. O. and Fred Campbell of Athens and a half-sister of County Attorney Miles B. Smith.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at he First Methodist church in Eustace, interment following in the Morehead cemetery. Mrs. Campbell had been a lifelong and devout member of the Methodist Church.
Deceased was born at Wortham, Texas, but had spent most of her life in Henderson county. She was a daughter of the late Lee W. Smith, prominent early settler of this county. She was the former Miss Elice Smith.
She is survived by her husband, a well known resident of Eustace, six sons, Horace Campbell Eustace; Homer Campbell, Liberty; Vernon Campbell, Corpus Christi; Herschel Campbell, Kaufman; Fred Campbell and B. O. Campbell, both of Athens; one daughter, Miss Melba Campbell of Eustace.
Also surviving are: one sister, Mrs. A. W. McLauchlin, Riverside California; three half brothers, Miles B. Smith, Athens; Roy Smith, Orange; and Robert Smith of San Diego California.
Out of town residents attending the service were: Henry Ketchum, Tulsa, Okla.; Miss Phyllis Ketchum, Houston; Mr and Mrs. Mac Murchison, El Paso; Dr and Mrs. D R. Murchison, Dallas; Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Knox, Corsicana; Mr and Mrs. Lee Tolliver, Miss Mary Tolliver, Mrs. W. H. O’Connor, Mrs. Harry Cragin, all of Ponca City, Okla. Mr and Mrs. E. H. Van Patten, Judge Royall R. Watkins, Mrs. T. L. Wynne, Mr and Mrs. Walter Finley, Mrs. W .A. Wofford, John Cain , all of Dallas; Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Knox, Mrs. W. K. Logsden, Mrs. John McGee, Mrs. Robert Stell, Jr. all of Corsicana; Mrs. John Mayfield, Ennis; Mrs. Jack Nash Sr. Kaufman.

E. M. Ketchum Dies in Okla; Burial Here
News of the death at 6:30 o’clock Wednesday evening of E. M. (Ed) Ketchum in a Ponca City, Oklahoma, hospital was received here Wednesday night. Mr. Ketchum was the husband of the former Miss Frankie Miller who was reared in Athens. A visitor here on many occasions, he was well known to many Athenians.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the family residence in Ponca City. The body then was carried by train to Dallas where it was met by John Lehr, Athens undertaker, who brought the ramins here for interment at a service held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning. Rev. Roy M. MacLeod, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Athens, was in charge of the burial service. Interment was in the city cemetery.
Mr. Ketchum, who came to Athens as a civil engineer when the Texas & New Orleans railroad was built, had lived for many years in Oklahoma where he was engaged in the contracting business. He entered the Ponca City hospital Sunday after becoming ill. He underwent an operation at 10 o’clock Monday night, surviving only two days. He married Miss Frankie Miller in 1915. She and a large number of relatives survive.
Pall bearers named were A. S. Ford, John Cain, C. H. Coleman, A. M. Barnes and A. F. Wood, Sr. of Athens; and E. H. Van Patten and Royall Watkins of Dallas.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Hable Held at 3:00 Friday Afternoon

Funeral services for Mrs. P. A. Hable, widow of the late Paul Hable, were held at Corsciana at ?? o’clock Friday afternoon with burial following in that city.
Mrs. Hable, 45, was found dead in her bathroom at her home there late Wednesday. Officials said she had been dead for several hours.
Attending the funeral from Athens were Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Hable, Miss Myrtle and Raymond Hable and Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Patterson.
Deceased is survived by a daughter, Pauline 8, two sisters and one brother. The child has been living with Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Patterson here since the death of her father about two years ago.

Missing 3 Days Brownsboro Man is Found Dead

After being absent from the home of his son for three days, the body of R. A. Adair, 67, of near Brownsboro, was found late Wednesday afternoon on the farm of his son A. G. Adair, in the Brownsboro community. He was a brother of Dewitt Adair of Athens.
The body of the aged Henderson county citizen was found by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. A.G. Adair, who was a member of a searching party.
Deceased was last seen alive on Monday afternoon but no search was started immediately as he frequently visited other relatives in the vicinity.
The body was found in a field where he had been clearing ground.
Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Thursday morning at the Leagueville cemetery with Rev. Roy Gibbs, pastor of the First Methodist church of Chandler, in charge.
He is survived by three sons, A. G., C. A., and J. P. Adair, all of near Brownsboro; one daughter, Mrs. Lela May Richardson, of Brownsboro; three brothers, Price Adair, Brownsboro; Dewitt Adair, Athens, and Charles Adair.

Mrs. I. F. Barton, 80, Dies at Brownsboro; Burial On Sunday

Following an illness of ten days, Mrs. I. F. Barton, 80, life-long resident of the Brownsboro community died at 7:20 o’clock Saturday morning. Her death occurred at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Worsham, South of Brownsboro.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Leagueville cemetery where interment followed.
Deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mammie Cotton, Brownsboro; Mrs. Ida McClain, Brownsboro; and Mrs. Ethel Worsham, South of Brownsboro; three sisters, Mrs. Able Lindsay, West, Texas; Mrs. Nora Brown, Brownsboro; and Mrs. Sinie Brown of Brownsboro; a step-son, Tom Barton, of near Brownsboro and a step-daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Armstrong of Blooming Grove.
Mrs. I. F. Barton was before her marriage, Miss Betty Lamance. She had been a lifelong member of the Primitive Baptist faith.

Mrs. J. J. Noble Dies Wednesday at Eustace Home

Mrs. J. J. Noble, 84, a resident of Henderson county for thirty-five years and a resident of Eustace for the past twenty years, died Wednesday night.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the First Methodist church in Eustace. Interment was a the Meredith Camp Ground cemetery. Rev. Grady Hollonquist of Houston, first pastor of the Methodist Church at Eustace, conducted the services. Deceased had been a member of the church since it’s founding.
Surviving include four sons, Murray Noble of Malakoff, Ira Noble and Robert Noble of Eustace and Tommie Noble of Payne Springs; two daughters Mrs. Oscar Shelton and Miss Vera Noble both of Eustace. Her husband died a number of years ago.

Mrs. W. T. Green Pioneer Citizen Passes Away

Following a long illness which kept her confined to her bed for the past year, Mrs. W. T. Green, 85, Native Henderson county citizen and a member of a pioneer county family, died at 5 o’clock Thursday morning at her home on East Corsicana street. Mrs. Green had lived a half century in the residence in which her death occurred.
Funeral services were held from the home at 10:30 o’clock Friday morning, with Rev. C. d. Poston, pastor of the First Christian Church, in charge. Mrs. Green had been a lifelong member of that faith, her father, the late Rev. W. B. Stirman, having been one of the county’s pioneer ministers.
Pall bearers were: Don Dickerson, J. C. Davis, Buddy Burr, Tom Taylor, Luther Cox and G. L. Shelton.
Deceased was born April 12th, 1853 on the family homestead, five miles north of Athens, and she had lived continuously in her native county. She married the late W. T. Green, pioneer business man, in 1872 and five children were born to this union. Two survive. They are: Mrs. H. A. Jandrews, Dallas; and Mrs. J. W. Hadden, San Antonio. The late V. I. Stirman was a sister of the deceased. V. I. Stirman and W. T. Green were partners in the drug business here for many years.
Interment will be in the city cemetery.

Native of County Dies at Home in Eustace Friday

J. S. (Shade) Graham, 68, native citizen of Henderson county, died at his home in Eustace at 5:38 Friday morning. He had been ill for several weeks.
Funeral services were held on Saturday with burial following at Moorehead cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Williford and Rev. O. C. Davis.
Born in the Cottonwood community near Eustace, Mr. Graham had lived his entire life there and at Eustace.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Melvin Graham of Quinlan, Texas and Tommie Graham of Baytown, Texas; one sister, Mrs. W. L. Ballard of Eustace and two brothers, George of Eustace and A. G. of Cottonwood.
Deceased was the son of the late Hugh Graham early day settler in this county and one time representative in the Legislature.
