Final Rites for Leon Elledge Here Sunday


Leon Elledge, 23, of Athens died in a local hospital about 9 a.m. Friday
after an illness of several weeks.

Born Mar. 18, 1937 in Athens he attended schools in Murchison and Athens.
He married the former Katherine McLemore of Athens Aug. 4, 1959. He was a
member of West Highlands Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, a son, Rickey Lynn Elledge of Athens; his parents
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Elledge of Athens and a sister, Sandra Elledge of Athens;
maternal grandfather, Luther Halbert of Athens.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at West Highlands Baptist Church
with the Rev. Herbert Hodges and Rev. Cleon Powell officiating, and burial will be
in Athens City Cemetery, Carroll and Lehr in charge.

Pallbearers will be Claudie Bob Whittington, Ralph Whittington, Jr., Bill Halbert,
Dan Autry Malone, Bill Halbert, and Leroy Calhoun.

Rites Held for Dan Rogers Jr., Corsicana
Funeral services were held Friday at the Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana for
Dan Rogers, Jr., 37, a native of Henderson County, who died Wednesday in a
Corsicana hospital.

Burial was in the Hamilton Cemetery.

Rogers was born in Athens and was a veteran of World War ll. He was a member
of the Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Dan Rogers lll and David Rogers; one daughter,
Judith Ann Rogers, all of Corsicana, and five sisters, Mrs. Kenny Nichols of Corsicana,
Mrs. B. R. Adams of Dallas, Mrs. T. G. Jones of Lolita, Mrs. W. J. Jones of Plano,
and Mrs. O. R. Malone Jr., of Lake Charles, La.

W. E. Canant of Chandler Dies: Rites Friday
CANTON (Spl.) Funeral services for Will E. Canant, 81 of Chandler were held at 2 p.m.
Friday at the Chandler First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth G. Patrick officiating.
Burial was in Chandler Cemetery under direction of Newman Bro. Funeral Home of Edgewood.

Mr. Canant was a native of Edgewood in Van Zandt County. He moved to Chandler in 1909.

He died Wednesday at Medical Center Hospital in Tyler after a short illness. He was a
retired stock farmer.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were C. C. Ellis, G. L. Ellis, W. C. Ellis, Steve Terrell, Leo Jones, and T. P.
Fitzgerald

Mrs. Jeff Lewis Dies Thursday; Rites Saturday


Mrs. *Jeff Lewis, 75, of 823 N. Prairieville. Athens, died at 2 p.m., Thursday at her home
after a lengthy illness.

Born in Alabama, Mrs. Lewis had lived in Van Zandt and Henderson Counties most of
her life. She had lived in Athens for 54 years. She married Jeff Lewis, July 7, 1907 in
Ben Wheeler, he died July 5, 1952. He was a groceryman.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by two sons, Estes L. Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz., and Herbert L. Lewis
of Fort Worth; two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Williams of Athens, and Mrs. Edwina Evans of Lander,
Wyo.; four sisters, Mrs. Sam Curtis of Garland, Mrs. H. A. Bearden of Palestine,
Mrs. C. L. (should be G. L. ) Stafford of Athens, Miss Lula Brown of Terrell; a brother
Albert Brown of Houston and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the First Baptist Church with the
Rev. Lee Ramsour officiating, and burial will be in Athens City Cemetery, Carroll and
Lehr Funeral Home of Athens in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy, Frank and Harry Baker, Gene Malone, Homer Williams
and J. M. Crawford.
