Homer Avant, 43 Dies At Home In Anderson County


Homer Avant, 43, well known citizen of the Tennessee Colony community, Anderson county, died at the family home there at 6:00 o’clock Monday, according to word received by relatives and friends here. Mr. Avant, who had returned from the government hospital at Alexander, La., in September died of a heart attack.

Funeral services were set for 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at Tennessee Colony and burial will take place there.

Deceased was a brother of Mrs. Will A. Wofford of Athens and also had a number of other relatives residing here. He was well known in Athens where he had frequently visited. He was well known in Athens where he had frequently visited. He was a member of the Christian church.

Mr. Avant was a World War veteran.
he is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Avant, one sister, Mrs. Wofford and one brother, Sam Avant of Missouri. He also has a number of half sisters and brothers.

Among those attending the funeral from Athens were Postmaster and Mrs. E. L. Watson and son, John Lynn and Mrs. Jettie Hodge. His sister, Mrs. Wofford went to Tennessee Colony Monday after receipt of news of his death.

Mrs. Mary Wyatt, Dies At Austin; Burial Monday


Mrs. Riley (Aunt Mary) Wyatt, 93, widow of the late Riley Wyatt, well known citizen of the Martin’s Mill community, died Sunday at the Confederate Home in Austin.

Deceased was an aunt of Mrs. Sam Rowan of near Murchison and of Mrs. Ellis Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Hobbs, the later couple from Martin’s Mill, went to Austin to attend funeral services scheduled to be held there Monday afternoon. Burial will be in the Confederate cemetery there. She was and aunt of Mr. Hobbs.

Mrs. Wyatt was the oldest person living in the Confederate Home.
