Death Claims Mrs. Carrie Thompson, Funeral Monday
Mrs. Carrie Miles Thompson, 50, lifelong resident of this community, passed away
at her home here at 9:20 a.m. Sunday following an illness of several weeks.
Although her health had been failing for some time, she had been able to carry on
her work at Flagg Dry Goods Store, where she had been employed for many years.
About six weeks ago, her condition took a critical turn for the worse, and she was
taken by ambulance on two occasions to hospitals in Corsicana and Dallas. She
had been confined to her bed during the whole of this recent illness.
Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock Monday at the Methodist Church with the
pastor, Rev. Thomas M. Price, officiating. Interment too place immediately
following in the Malakoff Cemetery with arrangements in the hands of Ballard
Funeral Home here. Her remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband,
who preceded her in death in 1924.
The deceased is survived by one small son, Arthur Miles Thompson, 15; one
brother, John Miles of Malakoff, Route 2; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Smith of this
city.
Miss Carrie, as she was more familiarly known to her wide acquaintance in this
community, was born on April 2, 1887 at Rice Texas, the daughter of the late John
L. and Selina Miles. Her parents moved to Malakoff when she was only eight
months old. With the exception of a brief period following her marriage to Mr.
Thompson, she spent her entire life in or near this community. She was united with
the Methodist church in early life and remained consistent in that faith until her
death.
The photograph and obituary are of my grandmother on my father's side.
Her name was Carrie Amanda (Miles) Thompson.  She was a fixture in
Malakoff in the 20's and 30's and was well-known to people in
Malakoff as "Miss Carrie."  She worked for years at Flagg Dry Goods/Drug Store.
Her husband was Sandy R. Thompson, who built the Flagg house in Malakoff.
