Oldest Resident Of County Succumbs

The oldest living resident in Henderson County and the oldest living Mason in the
Grand Lodge of Texas, F. D. DeShazo, 101 years old, died at his home in Athens
at 9:40 p.m., Tuesday following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday from the New York Baptist
Church with the Rev. J. O. Jolly, pastor, and the Rev. Lee Ramsour, pastor of the
First Baptist Church of Athens, officiating. The Masonic Lodge of Athens will be in
charge or graveside services at the New York Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Boyce and Bobby LedbetterClyde Topping, Arlis Wilks,
Ferrell DeShazo, and Hugh Reynolds.
Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
Born August 2, 1854 in Palledsa, Alabama, Mr. DeShazo moved to Texas when
he was 19 years old. He first lived in Freestone County and moved to Henderson
County 62 years ago. He settled in the New York community and moved to Athens
11 years ago.
Mr. DeShazo was a past master of the New York Masonic Lodge and at one time
served for a number of years as Justice of the Peace at New York. He was a member
of the New York Baptist Church for more than 60 years.
Survivors include two sons, Will  and Preston DeShazo, both of Athens; three daughters,
Miss Lizzie DeShazo and Miss Ana Bell DeShazo, both of Athens, and Mrs. Lillie Taylor
of Rusk, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Final Rites for Mrs. Johnson Slated Thursday


Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 p.m. from the Missionary Baptist Church at Malakoff for Mrs. Johnnie Elizabeth Johnson, 60, who died at her home at Malakoff at 4 p.m., Tuesday after a brief illness.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. W. H. Day and the Rev. Otis Christian and interment will be in the Judson Cemetery at Cayuga. Hassell and Foster of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Cayuga and had lived in Henderson County for the past 33 years. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Malakoff.
Survivors include her husband Tom Johnson ; two sons, Thomas A. Johnson of Venice, Louisiana, and Glyn Johnson of Malakoff; a daughter, Mrs. John K.  Simmons  of Athens; a sister, Mrs. Lon Carter of Athens, and two grandchildren.

Funeral for Jerry Tapley Held Thursday

Funeral services for Jerry Daniel Tapley, who died Wednesday morning at 6:00 o' clock in a Dallas hospital, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Malakoff Cemetery.

The services were conducted by the Rev. E. W. Harris, pastor of the Pentecostal Church at Malakoff.

The Athens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.The baby was born on June 29,1942, at Malakoff. He has been ill for the last five months and had been in the hospital for three months of that time.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ella. L. Tapley, Malakoff; five sisters, Thelma Marie Tapley of
Corsicana, and Imogene, Mary Evelyn, Wanda Lou and Betty Sue Tapley, all of Malakoff. Five brothers; James Ellis, Billy Dean, Robert Wayne, Donald Ray and Roy Edwin Tapley, all of  Malakoff, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.W. H. Fuller of Route 1 Athens.

I believe the correct name of the parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ellis L. Tapley.
Fuller surname is in my direct line.
