Jessie Carter McWhorter

Services for Jessie Carter McWhorter, 92, of Malakoff were held Sunday
at Shady Oaks Baptist Church of Cross Roads with the Rev. Robert Davis
officiating.

Burial followed at Post Oak Cemetery in Cross Roads.

McWhorter died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, in Athens.

She was born on Feb. 17, 1909, in Mount Pleasant to Arthur D. and
Sarah Elmira Owen Carter.

She worked for 15 years as a cashier at Dairy Queen, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Malakoff.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Billie Marie Nichols
and Marlin Horace Nichols; a brother, Marshall Carter; sisters, Bobbie Reed
and Leslie Franklin; and a grandson, Steve Randal Anding.

Survivors include children, Hilda Jo Anding, Betty Fontenot and Jeanie Hampton
of Malakoff, Keeta Holly of Mena, Ark.; brothers Harold Carter of Jacksonville, Fla.,
Horace L. Carter of Sherman, A.D. Carter of Temecula, Calif., Durwood Carter
of Grapeland, and Howard Carter of Normangee; sisters, Bessie Filbrick and
Jean Turner, both of Athens; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and
10 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Clara Tom Howell

Mrs. Howell passed away December 27th, 2005 in an Athens hospital.

She was born October 25th, 1913 in Athens to the late Tom and Pearl Massey Frizzell.
She lived in Henderson County most of her life, graduating from Athens High School.
She was a member of the B & PW Club, West Athens Baptist Church, and worked for
Athens Canning Company as a billing clerk for 22 years. She was preceded in death
by her husbands, Leslie Shafer and Richard Howell; a sister, Thessa Burr; and a son,
Tommy Lee Shafer.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shasta and Carl Dunklin, grandchildren,
Johny Shafer, Brian Dunklin, Kim Miller, and Carla Dunklin, great grandchildren, Courtney
and Austin Miller, nephews, Jim Burr, and Jerry Burr, and daughter-in-law, Sharon Shafer.

The family requests that memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation,
13500 Midway Rd., Ste. 101, Dallas, Texas 75244.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
