John Henry Clay, 83, a native of Little Rock, Ark., and a resident of Athens for 40 years, died thursday in an Athens hospital after a long illness.
He was a member of the Central Baptist Church.

Survivors are two sons, Jimmie Clay and Eddie Clay of Dallas, and three daughters, 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Virginia Hill Baptist Church and burial was in the Shelby Chapel Cemetery.
