Elder J.W. Owen was born in Randolph County, Alabama and
came to Texas in 1850 and settled in Henderson County.
He professed a hope in 1854, but did not join the church
until 1859, at which time he joined The Pilgrim Rest Church,
was liberated to preach, and in July 1869, he ws ordained to
the full work of the ministry.  He was chosen moderator of the
Union Association on October 1883, and served till Oct 8, 1892.
when on account of failing health he was compelled to retire.
Brother Owen was strong in the faith once delivered to the Saints.
He traveled far and near preaching the Gospel of Christ.  His last
sermon was preached at Big Creek Association in October 1, 1895
when he fell, in the stand, while preaching.  He died in January 1896
in full faith of Immortality after the Grave.
