Maybell Brand Poe
Services for Maybell Brand Poe, 91, of Brownsboro were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at
Rock Hill Baptist Church in Brownsboro.
Burial was at Rock Hill Cemetery in Brownsboro under the direction of Suggs Funeral Home.
Mrs. Poe died April 5, 1999.
She was born Sept. 12, 1907.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Haston C. Poe Jr., and two sons.
Mrs. Poe is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, H.C. and Mary Poe and Milton
and Barbara Poe; daughters and sons-in-law, Janie Potts, Sylvia Faye and Joe Gibbins,
Lou and Gary Edmonds and Letta and Bob Lauderdale; sisters, Essie Hopkins, Mary
Lou Thompson; brothers, Dan Brand and Dave Brand; 18 grandchildren; 41
great-grandchildren and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary Potts, Ricky Potts, Larry Potts, Terry Gibbons, Bryan
Edmonds and Jerry Lauderdale.

Trudie Mae McFarland
Services for Trudie Mae McFarland, 77, of Athens are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday
at Rock Hill Baptist Church in Cuney with the Revs. D. Simpson and C. Wingham officiating.
Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery in Cuney under the direction of Community
Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Mrs. McFarland died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at an Athens hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Cuney. She was a housewife and a member of Rock
Hill Baptist Church for many years. When she moved to Athens, she joined the
Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Mrs. McFarland is survived by her husband, Alford McFarland of Athens; three sons
and daughters-in-law, Joe and Alice McFarland, Alvis and Phyllis McFarland of Dallas
and Oscar and Mary McFarland of Mabank; five daughters, Bobbie Giles of Fort Worth,
Elta Moore, Linda Vernon Hall, Earnestine Patton and Dianne Frater, all of Athens;
two step-children, Carrie Hall of Jacksonville and Jessie McFarland of Frinton; 35
grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and one
goddaughter, Darlene Prince of Athens.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Patton, Darryel McFarland, Oscar McFarland, Oscar Moore Jr.,
Stafford Hall and DeMarkas Patton.
Honorary pallbearers are LyTerry Frater, Alvis Hall, Thurston Hall, Eric Moore, Justin
Criner and John Jacobs.

Joe Don Bradley
Services for Joe Don Bradley, 62, of Brownsboro are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at
the Rock Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Logan and Ron Moore officiating.
Burial will follow at the Rock Hill Cemetery, under the direction of the Foster & Brown
Funeral Home.
Mr. Barker died Thursday, March 2 at his home.
He was born June 11, 1937, in Bullard to Charlie and Myrtle Wiggins Barkley.
Mr. Barkley was employed at the Kelly Springfield Company for the past 25 years. He
was a resident of Henderson County for 29 years. He served in the United States
Army from 1960-62. He had a fondness for children, especially his two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Dolly Durham Barkley of Brownsboro; one son
and one daughter-in-law, David and Melissa Barkley of Forney; two sisters, Vonceal
Brackins and Betty Barkley, both of Sopchoppy, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Amy
and Sara Barkley of Forney.
Pallbearers will include Damon Durham, Jeremy Durham, Sammy Lynn, Mike Slagle,
Wayne Pickle and Steve Pirtle.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Davis, Randy Bradley and Ricky Smith.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday 6-8 p.m.

Johnnie 'Big John' Holt
Services for Johnnie "Big John" Holt, 64, of Brownsboro were held at 11 a.m. Monday
at Rock Hill Baptist Church in Brownsboro with the Rev. Ron Moore officiating.
Burial followed at Rock Hill Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home
of Athens.
Mr. Holt died July 1, 2000, in Tyler.
He was born Jan. 26, 1936, in Kerens to Johnnie and Nettie Lue Hemby Holt.
Mr. Holt was a resident of Brownsboro most of his life and a member of Rock Hill
Baptist Church. He retired as manager of Smith Lumber Company in Athens in 1998
after working there 24 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Dallas Holt, on April 13, 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Holt of Brownsboro; sons and daughters-in-law,
Bobo and Robin Holt and Terry and Trisha Holt, all of Brownsboro; daughters and
sons-in-law, Beverly and Charles Emerson of Tyler and Joyce and Tommy Little of
Brownsboro; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Deena Holt of Azle; stepbrother,
Mark Bing of Fort Worth; stepsister and stepbrother-in-law, Elizabeth and Randall
McCullough of Burleson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bobby Taylor, Dan Taylor, Eric Smith, Murray Abendroth, Frank
Hood and Roy Meyer.
Honorary pallbearers were Peggy Salman, John Emerson, Justin Emerson, Austin
Holt, Shelbi Holt, Melissa Little and Heather Graham.

Louis M. Featherston
Services for Louis M. Featherston, 76, of Chandler are scheduled for 10 a.m.
Tuesday at Union Hill Baptist Church in Brownsboro with the Rev. Bill Hamilton
officiating.
Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral
Home of Athens.
Mr. Featherston died July 9, 2000, in Tyler.
He was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Henderson County to Thomas Alexander and Ara
Alice Green Featherston.
Mr. Featherston was a resident of Henderson County most of his life. He was
employed 25-years at Curtis Mathis Manufacturing before retiring in 1987 as parts
department foreman. He was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, where he
served as a deacon.
Mr. Featherston was preceded in death by brothers, Sidney, Weldon and Rastus.
Survivors include wife, Zeffie Gunnels Featherston of Chandler; daughters and
sons-in-law, Brenda and Richard Lemen of Tyler, Mary Brooks of Tyler, Linda
and Steve Goodrich of Chandler and Sue and David Pulley of Canton; brothers,
Vernon Featherston, E.C. "Pete" Featherston and Billy Featherston, all of
Brownsboro; sisters, Belle Perry of Brownsboro, Mozelle Blackledge of Mesquite,
Cleo Palmer of Tyler and Martha Willingham of LaRue; 11 grandchildren; and
14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bill Wallace, Elliott Shinn, Scott Shinn, Gerald Fowler, Bud
Willingham and Drew Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bo Brown and Johnny McClatchy.

Arah Hunt
Services for Arah Hunt, 90, of Chandler are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at
Rock Hill Baptist Church in Henderson County with Bob Logan and Ron Moore
officiating.
Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Memorial
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hunt died Sept. 19, 2000, in Tyler.
She was born March 30, 1910, in Brownsboro.
Mrs. Hunt attended schools in Henderson County, where she lived almost all of
her life. She was a homemaker and a retired nurse. She was a member of Rock
Hill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.O. Hunt; parents, James and
Martha Shiflet; grandson, Mike Hunt; daughter, Helen Hunt McRoy; and brothers,
John Henry Shiflet and Matt E. Davis.
Survivors include son, James Hunt of Chandler; daughters, Edith Browning of
Houston and Merita Shacklett of Chandler; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren;
and two great-great- grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wendell Browning, Troy Browning, Allen Cooper, James Cooper,
Greg Hunt, Marcus Shacklett and Travis Shacklett.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

V.J. Laymance Jr.
Services for V.J. Laymance Jr., 78, of Brownsboro were held at 2 p.m. Monday at
Foster & Brown Chapel in Athens with the Rev. Larry Fondren officiating.
Burial followed at Rock Hill Cemetery under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral
Home.
Mr. Laymance passed away Nov. 17, 2000, at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
He was born Sept. 13, 1922, in Brownsboro, the son of Volley Jefferson and Creise
Smith Laymance.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Laymance was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Marie Laymance in 1991.
He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Dana Laymance of
Athens; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Lyndon Carver of Chandler, Carolyn
and Tony Acuna of Rockwall, Virginia and Charles Campbell of Texas City and
Shirley Craton of Texas City; grandchildren, Michelle Biscamp, Michael Craton,
Jennifer Rodden, Elizabeth Acuna, Christopher Campbell, Chad Campbell and
Nicholas Laymance; great-grandchildren, Jacob Biscamp, Blake Craton and
Tristin Rodden; brothers, David Laymance, Clyde Laymance and Glynn Laymance;
sisters, Luine Bell and Tina Treadway; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Nicholas Laymance, Christopher Campbell, Chad Campbell,
Michael Craton, Tony Acuna and Charles Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers were Josh Laymance and Jeremy Laymance.

Services for Essie Lee Hopson, 91, of Brownsboro are scheduled for 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr
Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Hopson died Jan. 20, 2001, in Chandler.
She was a resident of Brownsboro all her life. She was a lifetime dedicated
member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. She was an avid quilter and a member
of the quilting club at her church.
Mrs. Hopson id preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hopson, on April
30, 1982; son, Howard Hopson; and daughter, Norma Jean Hopson.
Survivors include daughters, Claudine Menitenneta of Chandler, Iva Nell
Williams of Brownsboro and Delores Smith of Brownsboro, Melba Thomas of
Austin and Dian Godwin of Brownsboro; brothers, David Brand of Brownsboro
and Dan Brand of Baytown; sister, Mary Lou Green of Brownsboro; 11
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Brand, Stanley McCurley, Donald Robertson, Brad
Godwin, Bud Hedrick, Sonny Poe, Jerry Elson and David McCurley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Milton Adair, Dennis Syr, Archie Clayton, Frank
Hood and Leroy Chamber.

Services for Wendill Ross Clayton, 47, of Brownsboro are scheduled for 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral
Home of Athens.
Mr. Clayton died May 21, 2001, in Brownsboro.
He was born Jan. 18, 1954, in Athens to Darrell Eugene and Sally Avinell
Morman Clayton.
Mr. Clayton was a lifelong resident of Brownsboro. He was a member of Rock
Hill Baptist Church and was employed at East Texas Medical Center Tyler for
15 years.
Survivors include his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Patti Clayton
of Brownsboro; aunts, Jimmie Clayton of Brownsboro and Jeanette Fox of San
Antonio; and uncle, Buddy Morman of Brownsboro.
Pallbearers will be Frank Hood, Leroy Chambers, Terris Bailey, Milton Adair,
Archie Clayton, Ken Knabell and Newman Herrington.
Family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Services for Dorothy Starr Dalton, 81, of Brownsboro were held at 2 p.m.
Saturday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Dell Boshart
officiating.
Burial followed at Rock Hill Cemetery in Brownsboro under the direction of
Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Dalton died June 14, 2001, in Tyler.
She was born in Tyler to Thomas Walter and Mary Ann Harrison Starr.
Mrs. Dalton retired from Chance Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie and was a
resident of Brownsboro since 1980. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Delmer Starr, Wade
Starr, Ulric Starr, Vernon Starr and William Starr; and sisters, Onita Bringgs,
Laurene Collier and Obie Smith.
Pallbearers were Thomas Wayne Starr, Jack Starr, Jerry Starr, Alvin Ray Starr,
Jade Starr and Jeremy Starr.

Services for Barbara Joyce Walker, 67, of Larue are scheduled for 2 p.m.

of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Walker died Aug. 16, 2001, in Larue.
She was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Chilton.
Mrs. Walker attended Central Texas College. She was a member of Forest Grove
Baptist Church, where she was active in her church and her family's gospel
ministry. She lived in Larue five years. She was a deputy sheriff of Bell County
from 1959-1977.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ophelia Atkins; and
two grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Bennie Walker of LaRue; daughters and
sons-in-law, Carolyn Sue and James Bannister of LaRue and Katherine Elaine
and Charles Smith of Chandler; brothers, Dewey Wayne Atkins of Freeport and
Bonner Joe Atkins of Stephenville; sister, Anna Yvonne Tindke of Belton;
12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chris Straw, Chuck Neagle, David Paul Smith, Wade Strong,
Ronnie Simpson and Dewayne Smith.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Denise Jackson
Graveside services for Mary Denise Jackson, 53, of Athens were held at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at Terrell Cemetery, located near Rock Hill Cemetery in Brownsboro,
under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Jackson died Sept. 3, 2001, in Athens.
She was born in Palestine to Hubert Joseph and Thelma Inez Pirtle Brewer.
Mrs. Jackson was a resident of Athens for the past four years and worked as a
provider for hospice. She was a former resident of Dallas for numerous years.
Survivors include her daughter, Celina Denise Lundy of Dallas; grandchildren,
Sara Airheart of Mesquite, Devin Lundy and Justin Lundy, both of Dallas; father,
Hubert Brewer of Athens; brothers, Tom Brewer of Carrollton and Alan Brewer of
Longview; and sister, Del Gearhart of Hurst.
Pallbearers will be Tom Brewer, John Gearhart, Alan Brewer and Paul Pirtle.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
